Frequently Asked Questions about the
Summer Graduate Courses

Do I need to apply to attend a summer graduate course?
To apply for a Summer Course, complete an application form (available in late fall 2009) and return it with the fee by May 1, 2010. Upon receipt of the application and fee, applicants will receive a confirmation letter with additional class information, which includes enrollment procedures, a class syllabus, and a tentative schedule. Applications will be available on this website or by contacting the KFAC office.

What does the application fee cover?
The application fee covers the cost of materials, resources and printing services required to make the course possible.

Are the application fee and tuition costs the same thing?
No.  The application fee covers the cost of materials, resources and printing services required to make the course possible.  Tuition is the charge for instruction through Kansas State University.  In order to receive graduate credit hours through KSU, tuition costs must also be paid.

Are there any tuition scholarships available so that I may attend?
Yes. All full-time Kansas teachers qualify for a tuition scholarship to cover tuition costs. Scholarship priority is given to applications received by May 1, 2010, and recipients will be notified upon receiving a scholarship. Applicants enrolled in more than one class may receive partial scholarships for subsequent classes. Tuition scholarships are made possible by Kansas agricultural donors.

Generally, our donors provide scholarship monies to pay for tuition costs.  As the student, you will be responsible for the application fee, unless the donor has specifically requested that monies be directed to cover it also.  If this is the case, KFAC will be in communication with you and will refund your application fee; however, this will only occur when the donor has specified they would like to pay the application fee in addition to tuition.

If I would like a full-tuition scholarship, is there a separate application that I need to complete?
No.  The application for the course also serves as the application for a full-tuition scholarship.  Priority will be given to those individuals who return the application and appropriate application fee by the May 1, 2010 deadline.  When your application is received, KFAC will send you a confirmation letter with information on available scholarship monies.

Because I get graduate credit for attending a course,
what are the course requirements?

Completion of a course requires participants to attend the course during the scheduled dates and times, classes meet 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and to submit lesson plans for use in the classroom.

What about transportation, lodging and meals?
Participants will be responsible for their transportation to and from class, their lodging accommodations and meals, unless otherwise specified in the confirmation letter sent by KFAC. For students traveling from a distance, hotel reservations are encouraged. For the course in Manhattan, lodging is available in university dormitories; call K-State Housing at 785-532-6368.

What if I submit an application but then am unable to attend?
The application fee will be deposited upon receipt and will be refunded if the applicant is not selected to attend or if less than 10 students are enrolled in the class. If an applicant chooses to cancel their application, a request must be made in writing 30 days prior to the first day of class in order to receive a full-refund of the application fee. If an applicant must cancel after the 30-day notification period without emergency cause, KFAC will retain the application fee.

What if I have additional questions?
